6 Lies We’ve All Told Our Parents

A typical “sanskaari” honest college student is just a myth! Yes, when we come into college, quotes like “Honesty is the best policy” and “Always tell the truth” seem absolutely ridiculous. Like, who tells their teacher that they did not complete the assignment simply because they did not care enough. Don’t we always say that we forgot to do it or we have left our notebook at home or some random things like that?

And similarly, who tells their parents that they are going to come home late because there is a party at a friend’s house. I mean come on, we do not want endless rantings about morals and good values just because we want to attend a party. To save our poor souls from parents’ endless list of questions and suspicions, all of us have surely used these lies at least once if not always!

EXTRA CLASS! WILL BE LATE

Extra classes have been saving generations of students for centuries. We never really attend them, because half of the time they are just made up by us so that we can go watch a movie or go for a date.

NEED MONEY FOR EXAM FORM!

How many exams forms are there to be filled, anyway? There are two for main examinations, one for internals, an extra for sports exam and whatnot, right? In the name of these forms, we have been gathering hundreds of rupees from our parents. And instead of going with exam forms, those big notes go to a posh restaurant where we and our friends hold a grand feast, every time.

SURPRISE GUEST LECTURE TODAY!

“CEO of WHO is coming to give a lecture on “Importance of Trees” and it is going to be an important one. So do not make dinner for me, I would be late” – sounds familiar? Well, that is because you have used it way too many times now. At least change the name of the organisation duh!

I AM GOING OUT WITH ABHI/ABHA

Roshan changes to Roshni for girls and Sanjukta changes to Sanjay for boys when telling parents who we are hanging out with. These fake names become more popular than the other person’s real name. Surprisingly, these names always save the day.

BUT EVERYONE FAILED THE TEST, MOM…

We need to stop using this, for now even our parents know that it is a lie. They always have a solid reply to this statement though – “If everyone is drowning, will you drown with them too?” And we are left speechless after we’ve been outwitted by our parents.

WE ARE JUST FRIENDS!

Not just something celebrities use to conceal their off-screen relationships, students are a step ahead of these celebrities.

The truth is that we are more than “just” friends. But good luck explaining this to our parents in future!
