“There’s a time and a place for everything…And it’s called College”
College – A word that excites some of us, and gets some anxious!!
The transition from adolescence to adulthood slowly dawns on us with the transition from school to college life – from a strict schedule of 8:30 AM-2:30 PM to flexible schedules, zero supervision and open choice to attend or bunk classes.
The liberty that comes with this new phase either makes us more responsible or spoils us. How we use the opportunity depends completely on us.
So here are a few tips that nobody gave us, but we figured them out ourselves, somewhere along the way.
Work & Play!
Set yourself free…explore your options and experiment as much as you can. Trust me, all work and no play will make you dull. So, don’t immerse yourself in just academics. Go beyond it. There is a world beyond marks and books and exams and this is your time to explore that world. Studying hard will equip you with knowledge but indulging yourself in extra curricular activities will make it more fun.
Challenge & Discover Yourself!
Never danced in your life? Go audition for the dance society. Never participated in school plays? Go audition for dramatics society. College life is the perfect time to rediscover yourself.
Don’t worry about making a fool out of yourself. You won’t. Go for the things that you have never done before. Challenge yourself, get out of comfort zone and breathe in the fresh air. If you have never tried something before, now is the time. You will either realize that its not your cup of tea or you will explore yourself from a whole new angle! What better than that? What if you nail the audition and discover a hidden talent? Take your chances and go for it.
Fall Down 7, Get up 8….
Falling hurts but the dare is to climb your way up. When you start something afresh, you are bound to make a few mistakes or fall flat on your nose. Try not to get too consumed with what people say or think. Its common and happens to everyone. The trick is to find the right moment to find your way back up. So mend your mistakes, don’t drown in its residue.
I know we all equate libraries with nerds. But, libraries are not just for studies. It is the one place in your college where you can find books and also, often, some peace of mind. So get comfortable in this space because for the next three years, it will be your escape point.
While it is important to be focused and dedicated, it is also important to sometimes loosen up a bit and chill. Don’t forget to take breaks whenever you feel like and treat yourself to shopping sprees or go clubbing. Explore the bylanes of Chandni Chowk and grab mouth-watering parathas and lip-smacking rabri!
What’s most important during college life is to find your own identity in the crowd. Do not get lost in it and do not follow the herd.
Keep these as your mantra and you will be good to go for the next three years!!
